As many of you know, I’ve been bitten (again) by the photography bug. Back in college and a few years after college, I shot 35mm with an old Pentax and would develop my own film and prints. Starting a career, losing access to a darkroom and life in general all conspired to shelve my hobby for far too long.

Now that I have a new DSLR in my mitts, I’ve been shooting alot this summer. So much that I’ve started a new tradition on my blog – the Fun Friday Photo. With the Fun Friday Photo, I hope to offer you a photo that introduces you to something new, teaches you something you didn’t know or just brings a smile to your face.

The Marvelous Mutts are a traveling group that puts on a show called the Canine Spectacular. I caught their show at the Bolton Fair in Lancaster, MA, and was amazed to see what these rescued dogs could do. Many of the canine performers are national or world champions in agility, disc or dock diving. The above photo illustrates how these dogs are trained to keep their eye on the ball, even though a giant splashdown awaits them below.

The great thing about these mutts is that they are all shelter dogs. Several of these dogs are mixed breeds as well. So if you’re looking for a new dog to add to your household, please consider a shelter dog. You never know, you may bring home a pup with world champion potential!
