Crowe's Pasture Beach in South Dennis, MA

This past weekend, we were feeling a little spring fever-ish and headed toward Cape Cod in search of beaches. It was sunny, but the day was pretty cold at the shore with a steady, stiff breeze. The Cape is a usually a zoo in the summer, but it’s a great destination in the off-season as well.

Instead of a 6-mile traffic backup at the Sagamore Bridge (as is the norm in the summer), we sailed over the bridge and were eating a lobster roll and fried clams at Captain Frosty’s Fish & Chips in no time. After a quick stop at the Brewster General Store, we went in search of sand and surf.

We had originally planned on getting up to Wellfleet, but we decided that adding an hour to our trip just wasn’t part of the day. A search on Yelp led us to Crowe’s Pasture Beach in South Dennis.

Crowe’s Pasture Beach is listed as a dog-friendly walking area by the town of Dennis. We had one of our dogs with us and wanted to give her a chance at her first beach visit. Crowe’s Pasture was a great choice. It’s secluded – accessible by a mile-long dirt road – and offers marsh, woods, and sand dunes.

This beach is definitely a hidden gem on the Cape. I can’t wait to return during high season when it’s not 40 degrees and windy!

Directions to Crowe’s Pasture: Take Rte. 6A in East Dennis to School St. (across from Airline Rd, just before the Brewster Town Line), the first right onto South St., and go straight through the stop sign, the cemetery (where there is parking) is on the right. — Directions courtesy of the Town of Dennis.
